Adrian Lombardi had survived the crash that killed his wife, destroyed his career, and left him in a wheelchair.
But there was one thing no doctor could explain.
Every time someone touched the long scar running down his back, Adrian became furious.
“Don’t touch me,” he warned every nurse who entered his luxury penthouse.
Then Emma arrived.
She was young, quiet, and hired only for the night shift. On her first evening, Adrian refused her help.
“I can manage alone.”
But when he suddenly lost his balance while moving from the wheelchair, Emma caught him. Her hand landed beside the scar.
Adrian froze.
Not from pain.
From fear.
Emma looked closer and noticed something strange beneath the old surgical line—a tiny hard shape under the skin.
“Mr. Lombardi… who operated on you after the crash?”
His face changed.
“My father’s private surgeon. Why?”
Emma slowly removed her hand.
“Because I worked in trauma surgery before becoming a home nurse,” she whispered. “And this doesn’t feel like normal scar tissue.”
Adrian stared at her.
That same night, against his family’s wishes, he went for a private scan.
The result left the doctor speechless.
There was a small metal device hidden beside Adrian’s spine.
And when investigators checked its serial number, they discovered something even worse.
It had been registered to a medical company owned by the man whose portrait still hung above Adrian’s fireplace.
His own father.
Adrian looked at Emma and whispered:
“The crash didn’t put me in this wheelchair… did it?”
Emma shook her head.
“No. But someone wanted you to believe it did.”
